Brendan the Abbot Brendan of Clonfert was an abbot of a Benedictine monastery that he founded during the sixth century. Little is known about St. Brendans early life. He was born at Annagh in 484. It was a custom at that time for a son to be taken from his parents. He was placed in the care of Ita who was a mystic and provided Brendans preparation until he was 6 years old. His education was then glowering over to Bishop St Erc. In the year 512 Brendan was ordained by Bishop nonesuch Erc. Eventually he established his own monastic colonization on the side of Mount Brendan. Over the next xxx years he established many monasteries in a number of places.. Brendan also established a convent in Annagh and it was headed by his sister, Biga. Most of Brendans missionary work is well documented that much of his explorations are highly speculative. It is said that Brendan had a spate of a what he called the Promise Land.
