The settlement of America began in a commonly overlooked settlement known as Jamestown. On May 14, 1607, 144 men completed the travel across the Atlantic to settle on the James River and material body a fort. The trials and tribulations that the settlers faced were harsh, and many did non survive. Not only were the men of the Virginia Company trying to find riches to send approve to the mother land, but every day was a battle just to survive.
