It feels like just yesterday I was holding my daughter and watching the sun set all over the ocean with my wife when I got the news that I was macrocosm sent to Vietnam. Without any thought I picked up my M16 Assault Rifle and started firing. The sirens are going off as a single flare hops up over us and illuminates the forest and brush ahead of us revealing two M41 tanks and what must have been over a hundred NVA rushing right for us. One of the men beside to me picks up a M72 LAW rocket launcher and starts pumping round after round into the tanks but all it did was slow them down. in that respect is not much I remember at that point, I must have shot at least 15 NVA but the tanks quickly over ran us.
The few of us remaining decided to retreat to the command post which was just a small dugout in the middle of the base.
We ran inside the bunker and called for support, they didnt believe it when we told them the NVA were attacking with tanks considering that this was the first time they had used tanks in combat. As soon as the attack was affirm the wait game for help began. Things quickly became quiet outside of the bunker other than the voices of wounded screaming and NVA troops cry at each other. There must have been slightly 20 of us in that bunker just waiting for the enemy to walk through the doorway.
